PS3 Overclock - XBOX 360 Dethroned?!
This is just my experience overclocking the GPU of several PS3s. It's not a tutorial. For more information regarding the overclock please read the thread, "Project RSX Boost" on the psx place forums.

Tutorial - How to Overclock the PS3
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.День назад
WARNING: Overclocking can lead to a brick. DO NOT attempt unless you are willing to accept the risk. This is a quick Tutorial showing you how to overclock the PS3's GPU and achieve your highest stable overclock, including boosting the core voltage. Every console has a different limit. So, it has to be determined experimentally and that can easily lead to a brick. Links: MFW Builder: github.com/...
A 360 Story - The RED Ring of Death & the 7th Generation Console War
Просмотров 35 тыс.6 месяцев назад
I poured everything I have into this video! I have spent the last few years researching the 7th generation consoles, specifically PS3 launch problems. What caused the Yellow Light of Death. I have continued that research with the XBOX 360's RROD, with the help of other talented techs. Namely, Josh Davidson (AKA Octal450). I was fascinated by the parallels between GPU failures both consoles had ...

This is a bit of a different video for me. I hope it's not too off from what viewers expect. Kinda just me relating my bad experience with an ebay purchase. An unboxing/lamenting video showing how it was a scam. While researching the CECHM03 model for another video I came across this 300 Movie Pack PlayStation 3 listing on eBay. It said it was an M03. PS3 Slim - LED Error Code!

A very short video showing how to access the LED Diagnostic Mode on a slim PS3. This model is a CECH-3001A with a KTE-001 Motherboard Revision. It only retrieves the last error that occurred and repeats the same one over an over again. So it's not a real substitute for the SYSCON errorlogs, which records 32, of them. But it's an easy way to se the last one without opening the console. And works...
PS3 SYSCON Tutorial | How to Diagnose the YLOD on PlayStation 3 using its own System Controller

THIS IS A TURORIAL to gain access and utilize the System Controller IC on a PlayStation 3 to retrieve the error logs and basic debugging information. These are very useful to help diagnose and repair the console after experiencing issues, such as a Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). However, it can be useful for much more than that. I cover the basics, not the more advanced stuff you can do with it....

Your 'reasoning' of fps not being relevant back then 'because the image was blurry anyway' .. doesn't make any sense. Also many people already had digital displays (720p) in the early 2000s. This overclock is an intersting thing and best compared to the XBOX 360 of course - but it doesn't matter as the big thing you are trying to make out of it ;)

I said the minor resolution difference didnt matter on CRT. They don't display different resolutions that same way as modern displays do. I said FPS wasn't as big a deal to gamers already used to slowdowns and who were simply amazed by the next generation graphics they were getting. I said that people spoiled with higher FPS now hyper-fixate on the pathetic 25 FPS these consoles strugle to maintain. Failing to put it in context of the time they were released and the role they played during the transition from Standard definition to HD.

Question, did you modify your TV settings? Some TVs have an option to smooth out the video's motion through frame interpolation. For example, on my Samsung TV there is an option that is call "motion smoothing", if you don't dial the option down it will give that dreaded soap opera effect. Is it possible that was what your friend was seeing when he was playing the game on your TV?

    • @ripfelix3020

No, it was a cheap TCL roku tv. I had it on game mode and it doesnt have many other advanced options. Game mode does work fairly well for most gaming systems, I have no complaints. But I dont game on this TV, I use my LG OLED for that or CRT. I used this TV because it's more representitive of a cheap average TV non-enthusiests are likely to have. That and It's what I have in the living room. Besides, both consoles used the same TV with the same settings on the inputs, so the consoles would have the same handicap.

this is the first time i’ve ever heard of someone getting “motion sickness” from higher framerate gameplay. I’m speaking as someone who skipped the entire 7th console generation due to the abysmal framerates giving *me* motion sickness. Far Cry 3 on PS3 made me barf once. I grew up on the PS2 and Gamecube, and mostly on games from that era that ran at either a locked 60 or a stable locked 30fps. And if it wasn’t those, it was fighting games at the arcade which were obviously also designed for 60fps gaming. The jump to the 7th generation was a drop I couldn’t handle, and I still can’t handle going back to it. There’s no elitist fanboying over here, I like a lot of the 7th console generation’s library. I just can’t play them on original hardware, it makes me physically ill.

Then had them try it out blind and give their impressions. As the viewer, you have the benifit of knowing what was done to each console. He didn't. I wonder if I didn't know which was which, or had litterally no idea what was done or what to look for, if I wouldn't make similarly strange conclusions.

That's an indirect measure and assumes that industry trends follow gamer preferences, not that they are catering to a specific audiance. That's a samll subset of the larger population of "gamers" just playing what they can on what they have. Which is usually older cheap, best buy black friday $150 TCL lcd roku tvs designed to be inexpensive, not top tier gaming orinted TVs. Let alone competitive PC monitors. He is a casual gamer with a job and life outside gaming. His interest in gaming is based on filling time when he wants to relax. And he doesnt have alot of money to spend on it. @ripfelix3020 День назад

Can you even buy a TV or monitor that doesn't do 60HZ? I mean, sales dont tell you anything other than what people are buying, from what's available. It doesnt tell you what they would prefer if they had unlimited resources and options to choose from. CRT, Plasma, OLED, LED, LCD, high/low refresh rate, etc... If anything it gives an idea of the socio-economics of TV/monitor buyers. Unless you could track console buyers and then found what TV they bought to pair with it, you're populatuon isn't "gamers." And even if you did know what TV gamers had, that wouldn't tell you what TV they"d prefer to have. It just tells you what they can afford to currently own. Like maybe they preferred their previous TV that broke. Or preferred the CRT they used to own, but got rid of because it was too big and hard to move. You can't attribute sales to average gamer preferences, they"re too far detached and not directly correlated.

I'll stick to nonsensical tech looking copyright free stock footage instead from now on. People have a less viceral aversion to it. To defend myself and AI art, I did spend time finding the right search terms and put thought into the kind of image I wanted to convey the image I had in my minds eye, but couldn't make on my own. I've heard the same said of the N64, Saturn, and PS1. The difference being that the games were smaller and didn't require as large of a development team. Less investment, less risk. The easier the development the smaller the team, less investment, more risk they could afford to take. Which I think is why those consoles felt like the most exciting time in gaming. A wider variety of interesiting games, genras, quarky and weird titles, and unique limitations imposed by the hardware led to distinct experiances. I think SONY was still thinking along those lines, but the push for photo realism and size of development teams needed to acomplish that made it prohibitivly expensive and difficult. Especially when xbox was a traditional PC like development environment and had a 1 year head start.
